By under the weather, I mean depressed. Several reasons, but the catalyst is the death of a few friends. They weren't close friends, so, it's not like that. But, like I said, it was a catalyst.
So, I'm not going to really review the two bands I've been listening to, other than to say that they make me feel better because they're both "musical comfort food" for me.
I've been listening to Whirr, who play old-school styled shoegaze.. Nothing new or exciting. Mix some Ride, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, and you're there. Maybe a little Swervedriver, but only a little. I needed that, you see. No challenge, just comforting volume in a pillowy presentation.
I've also been listening to War Brides, ( this post brought to you by the letter "W") who I'm not being fair to, by not reviewing them. They play a kind of Sludge Metal- Math Rock Hybrid that is exactly in my wheelhouse. Like Tragedy running headlong into Slint. But, it's comforting to me, in that it's exactly in my wheelhouse. I like exactly those sludge metal elements they're bringing in, and exactly those noise/math elements they're bringing in. So, unlike Whirr, look for me to actually review them, soon...
